Newham BID Renewal Second Term

Declaration of Result, Thursday 5th July 2018 - Newham BID has been successfully renewed for a second term with a strong mandate from the business community. A total of 79 businesses voted (57% turnout) and of these 68 (86%) voted in favour of the BID being renewed for a second term. The votes cast represented 91% of the rateable value of all votes cast. Newham BID will come to the end of its current five-year term at the end of August 2018 unless levy payers vote 'yes' by 5th July 2018 to a second term.  Please read our Renewal Business Plan.

Since 2013, Newham BID has delivered projects and services that businesses prioritised in the first business plan – a list of achievements can be found clicking on www.newhambid.com/about-newham-bid

Following consultation with a cross section of levy paying businesses we have heard that since the BID started in 2013 it has helped to:

  • Improve the safety and security of Newham’s businesses through the installation of 27 CCTV cameras (including ANPR and infra-red zoom lens) which has helped to detect crime
  • Provide directional signage (16 new signs) to help visitors locate businesses and to brand the area as a distinctive commercial area, ‘Newham & The Port of Truro’
  • Raise the profile of Newham and its businesses through PR and Marketing activities including a new website and utilising a wide range of different marketing mediums to generate new business opportunities and increase footfall
  • Ensure Newham looks cared for and the communal areas are well maintained as a result of regular monitoring of litter prompted by the BID’s liaison with the local authority and use of a contractor to maintain grassland and hedges.
  • Improve access across Newham through working with businesses to solve issues of unauthorised parking
  • Represent the interests of businesses through lobbying on the things that are important to them – including successfully challenging a residential planning application proposed for employment land

Under BID legislation, Newham BID can renew for a further five years from 2018 – 2023 subject to a new business plan being published and a ballot being held. Newham BID consulted with all levy payers during February/March 2018 to help inform the new business plan. Thank you to all the businesses who gave valuable feedback.

The BID Business Plan has now been published ahead of a ballot being held in June/July 2018.

Baselines

Services provided by statutory organisations within the Newham BID boundary that have a correlation to the projects that the BID will deliver have been documented below.  This is to ensure that Newham BID is adding value to current service provision and supporting businesses rather than replacing or duplicating existing services.

An agreement in principle, subject to a successful 'yes' vote has been reached with Cornwall Council and Devon and Cornwall Police that these baselines will be reviewed each year and that issues associated with local baselines will be reported through the localism team at Cornwall Council or Inspector of the Police as appropriate and as and when they occur.
